About Take Command

Take Command is a start-up on a mission to improve the healthcare system, starting with health insurance. Pragmatically speaking, we help employers reimburse employees for individual insurance instead of offering a traditional one-size-fits-all group plan. We believe this model can empower employees (when they have the right support) to be savvy healthcare consumers and have a transformative impact on the entire healthcare system.

Let’s be honest—health insurance is usually a confusing, frustrating, and even emotional experience for people. We want to fix that with a new model, great technology, and a superior user experience. We have made a great start, but we need your help to fully realize our long-term vision.

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Product Owner to serve as the champion for product development within our Agile framework. Reporting to the Product Manager, you’ll own the product backlog from definition to delivery, ensuring that it’s clear, prioritized, and aligned with user needs as well as the company’s vision and goals. If you’re passionate about creating best-in-class customer experiences, have a strong ownership mentality, and thrive in highly collaborative, fast-paced environments, this is the role for you.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Backlog Ownership: Create, refine, and prioritize the product backlog to align with customer needs and strategic goals. Ensure backlog items are detailed, actionable for design, development, and testing teams, and continuously updated to reflect user needs.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between business stakeholders (internal and external users) and the Scrum team to ensure alignment and clarity on the customer experiences being built. Facilitate proactive communication, detailed documentation, and collaboration to drive a user-centric approach to solutioning.
  • User-Centric Focus: Represent the voice of the customer, understanding and advocating for user needs and pain points through research and feedback. Continuously gather, document, and incorporate user feedback to enhance the customer experience.
  • Scrum Leadership: Support leading sprint planning, daily standups, and sprint reviews, ensuring the team delivers value every iteration. Actively engage in all Scrum ceremonies and support the team in proactively removing obstacles to ensure end-to-end delivery of customer value.
  • Requirement Definition: Break down complex requirements into actionable, detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria. Ensure user stories accurately represent the end-to-end user experience and are well-defined, documented, and ready for development. Where necessary, conduct research and investigation to ensure requirements fully capture the relevant needs and use cases necessary to create customer value.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement within the team, with a focus on enhancing the customer experience. Use metrics, retrospectives, and stakeholder feedback to continuously improve and measure the impact of improvements on the product and delivery processes.
Technical Skills and Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner in a Scrum environment.
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and methodologies.
  • Proven track record of successful product delivery in an Agile environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; highly detail-oriented and able to quickly understand and document complex, detailed scenarios with precision.
  • Experience with product management tools like Jira, Trello, or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify and quantity feature value, and build models to track and prioritize based on expected vs actual value.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make data-driven decisions.
  • Deep experience listening to, interviewing, and effectively translating customer needs into accurate documentation that reflects the holistic customer and experiences and use cases.
  • Strong background writing and testing detailed user requirements.
  • A strong ownership mentality, proactive-problem solver
Additional Expectations:
  • Vision Alignment: Ensure that all delivery work clearly aligns with the product vision and highest priority customer needs, with a strong emphasis on delivering a top-notch customer experience.
  • Decision Making: Define expected value during refinement and use consistent prioritization criteria to make informed prioritization decisions based on business value and user impact. Measure actual impact and use customer feedback to inform future decision making.
  • Collaboration: Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, encouraging input and ideas from all team members and proactively seeking feedback from both internal and external users on any requirements that impact them.
  • Ownership: Lead with a strong ownership mentality, proactively identifying opportunities to create best-in-class customer experiences; strong ownership of and responsibility for the end-to-end delivery process, including development, testing, and deployment.

Compensation: $105,000 - $115,000 plus a potential 5% bonus
