Matchbook Learning is a non-profit charter management organization based in Indianapolis, Indiana. We operate two schools: Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63, serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and The Match High School and Career Center, which currently serves 9th grade students and will expand to include 9th and 10th grade students in the fall of 2025.

We are currently seeking a Teacher to join our 2nd Grade Team at Matchbook Learning at Wendell Phillips School 63.
Position Overview
The 2nd Grade Teacher will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, engaging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum to a diverse group of students. The 2nd Grade Teacher will create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters a love of learning, critical thinking, and academic growth. The ideal candidate will be committed to the success of each student and work collaboratively with other staff members, parents, and administrators to support student development.
Key Responsibilities
These are the key responsibilities of a Teacher. Teachers may have other duties as assigned.
- Instruction and Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver daily lessons that align with state standards in subjects such as math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Incorporate varied teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive and structured classroom environment conducive to learning. Use effective classroom management techniques to ensure a respectful and focused atmosphere.
- Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess student progress through formal and informal assessments, track individual student growth, and adjust instruction as needed. Provide feedback to students and parents on academic progress.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, specialists, and administrators to ensure that students are supported in all areas of their development. Maintain open communication with parents through conferences, ParentSquare, and other forms of communication.
- Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education. Attend faculty meetings, workshops, and school events to contribute to the school’s mission and culture.
- Student Support: Provide individualized or small-group instruction to students who need extra help. Differentiate instruction to meet the varied needs of students, including those with learning challenges or advanced abilities.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
- Certification: State Standard teaching certification or equivalent out-of-state certificate.
- Experience: Previous experience working with elementary or middle school students is strongly preferred.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Ability to adapt lessons and teaching techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Commitment to professional growth and development.
- Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor to work with students.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least two years teaching experience in an urban or low-income setting.
- Demonstrated a record of success in the classroom (as a classroom teacher preferred, assistant and student teaching evidence considered).
- Familiarity with current educational technology and digital learning tools.
- Demonstrated an understanding of how to effectively analyze student data to guide instruction.
