ABOUT THE GIRLTREK MOVEMENT

GirlTrek is a grassroots, movement-building organization and is the largest and most inspiring non-profit organization for Black women’s health in the nation. With a membership of 1.2 million members, and counting, a viral podcast called Black History Bootcamp with close to 2M downloads and a volunteer infrastructure that directly serves thousands of the nation’s Blackest neighborhoods – GirlTrek’s influence is unmatched.

Overview: Our change theory is simple: we walk, talk, and solve problems together. This approach addresses the “Three Deadly Is” of inactivity, isolation, and injustice. On Juneteenth of this year, we launched GirlTREK Underground, our mobile app for members. It's been received extremely well and we have an ambitious roadmap. We're looking for a Part-Time UX/UI Designer to work closely with the product team to improve the app's user experience and design new features. The work will include creating wireframes, prototypes, and designs ready for implementation by our engineering team, all done iteratively in collaboration with multiple teammates. The commitment is approximately 10 hours per week, with work continuing at least through the end of 2024.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mockups optimized for mobile device interfaces.
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions.
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate your designs.
  • Collaborate with other GirlTREK team members to ensure cohesion between the app and GirlTREK’s engagement and organizing work.

Who You Are

Qualifications:

  • Strong visual design skills, from sketches and wireframes to pixel-perfect production ready designs
  • Ability to build functional prototypes in standard industry tools including Figma
  • Deep background with user experience design, especially for mobile
  • Comfort with conducting user experience research
  • Outstanding communication skills to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, including colleagues in product management, engineering, content design, and marketing

What You Can Expect

GirlTrek is a grassroots, movement-building organization. The ideal candidate thrives in a work environment that is agile and responsive to the needs of our movement. A successful candidate will come with a “start-up” mentality that allows them to engage in deep collaboration across teams so that resources are used smartly. All members of the national team are expected to participate in GirlTrek programming and serve as public ambassadors of the movement. GirlTrek offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and has been recognized as a leader in the nonprofit sector for its innovations in creating an org-culture that supports the wellbeing of its staff members at work and at home.

  • Vacation Time: Unlimited PTO, in addition to an annual winter sabbatical.
  • Retirement Plan: GirlTrek matches contributions to 401K accounts up to 4%.

Compensation: Each role is benchmarked using national data and considers compensatory factors such as the expectations of the role and the required qualifications for the role. The candidate’s final compensation package is determined once the interview is concluded and accounts for the compensatory factors listed above, in addition to experience, competencies, physical location and GirlTREK’s annual winter sabbatical. The hourly pay range for this role is $50 - $100.
