ABOUT FLOURISH FUND Flourish Fund is a new venture philanthropy organization seeking to catalyze large-scale social innovation for human flourishing. At their best moments throughout history, followers of Jesus have changed the way that societies care for the most vulnerable - unlocking possibility for more people and communities to flourish. We believe this transformation can happen again in our lifetime - and generous givers can fuel this change.
We are on a mission to mobilize communities of faith-motivated givers to multiply the impact of their generosity. Within the next decade, we seek to activate hundreds of millions of philanthropic dollars toward rigorous strategies that deliver measurable outcomes for human flourishing.
We are recruiting an outstanding, values-driven problem solver to drive our first initiative, Flourish: Children & Families, and build our organizational problem-solving capabilities. This person will play an important leadership role at a critical juncture for our rapidly growing organization.
OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES Working with the Founder & CEO, the Director of Strategy & Impact will lead our work to shape and execute opportunities for large-scale redemptive impact. Initially, these efforts will focus on our first initiative, Flourish: Children and Families, which aims to reimagine the foster system. Then we will replicate these efforts for other initiatives, with a plan to launch a new initiative every 18-24 months. Responsibilities include:
Research and Analysis: • Lead research to understand complex societal challenges, analyze root causes, and identify innovations and levers for change that are ripe for philanthropic investment • Develop data-informed philanthropic investment theses and actionable strategies for shifting current approaches, scaling promising innovations, and changing systems
Strategy Development and Implementation: • Translate investment strategy into a concrete plan for successful implementation, including budget development, partner identification and governance, and program management • Oversee grant making and other supports needed to scale innovative solutions and strengthen ecosystems, resulting in measurable outcomes
Impact Measurement: • Design monitoring and evaluation frameworks for measuring outcomes, incorporating approaches to capture ongoing learnings and adapt strategy throughout the life of an initiative • Execute learning and evaluation plans, including partnering with key stakeholders to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
People and Stakeholder Development: • Directly manage and mentor a team of analysts, providing actionable feedback and contributing to their growth and development • Cultivate and manage relationships with non-profit leaders, investors, and other senior stakeholders
POSITION REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
We are seeking a values-driven, impact-minded leader with:
• At least 8 years of relevant experiences (e.g., strategy consulting and/or operational leadership in an innovative philanthropic or social sector context) • Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for social innovation, collective impact, and culture change. • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and/or understanding of human-centered design • Excellent managerial and interpersonal skills and a track record of developing people • Ability to communicate effectively and manage relationships with senior-level partners
We are a young and rapidly growing organization and offer ample opportunities for growth and personal development. To thrive at Flourish Fund you will be: • intellectually curious and energized by tackling tough challenges • entrepreneurially minded, with an attitude of continuous learning • a proactive self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity • humble, selfless, and good humored
As a mission-driven start up, we seek someone with a mature Orthodox Christian faith who is energized by our vision for Kingdom impact and aligned with our core values. Those values are to be:
• Radically Generous: We are open-handed and collaborative, sharing credit, empowering others, and willing to sacrifice. • Peacemakers: In a polarized age, we seek mutual flourishing; we are quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger. • Relationship-Centered: We care for each other and our partners as whole persons, showing compassion and empathy and believing in the dignity of all. • Faithful Stewards: As stewards of God’s capital, we reject the status quo and hold ourselves to high standards of excellence, innovation, and results. • Continuously Learning: We embrace a bottom-up, systems approach, rejecting simple answers while thinking humbly and holistically about complex challenges.
We operate a remote-first working environment, with several team members located in Alexandria, VA and others distributed in other geographies. Team in-person meetings take place 4-6 times a year, usually in the Washington, DC metro area.
Occasional travel will be required (up to 20%) for partner site visits and investor meetings.
Salary will be competitive with experience. We are currently operating under a fiscal sponsorship by the Oak Rose Fund, so all team members are on 1099-contractor arrangements. Once we receive our 501c3 determination, team members will convert to full-time employees with benefits.
