Position Summary: A registered midwife is to provide comprehensive, women- centered
care throughout the childbirth continuum, supporting women and their families from
pregnancy through labor, birth, and the postpartum period, with focus on promoting
positive maternal and newborn outcomes, empowering women to make informed
choices about their care and ensuring a safe and satisfying childbirth experience.

Job Responsibilities
● Prenatal care: Provide comprehensive prenatal care to expectant mothers,
including conducting physical examination, monitoring fetal development, and
offering guidance on nutrition, exercise, and prenatal testing
● Labor support, during labor and childbirth: Offer emotional support, coaching,
and medical assistance, You monitor the progress of labor, assess the well-being
of the mother and baby, and provide pain management techniques
● Delivery assistance: Assist with childbirth, ensuring a safe and comfortable
delivery for both the mother and baby with emphasis on prevention of infection
and control according to MoH guidelines
● Postpartum care: After childbirth you provide postparture care to both the mother
and newborn, this includes monitoring recovery, assessing breastfeeding,
immunization, offering newborn care guidance, and providing support for
emotional adjustment

● Complication management: Recognizing signs of complications during
pregnancy, labor, and postpartum periods, and taking appropriate actions to
address them, including collaborating with obstetricians or other health care
professionals when necessary
● Education and counseling: Educate expectant mothers and their families about
pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care, offer counseling on topics such as
childbirth options, newborn care, breastfeeding, and family planning and
recommended diet
● Collaboration with healthcare providers: Collaborate with other health care
professionals to ensure comprehensive care for mothers and babies you may
consult with or organize appropriate referrals to patients to specialists when you
have identified high-risk pregnancies
● Advocacy and Empowerment: Advocate for the rights and choices of women in
childbirth. You empower women to make informed decisions about healthcare and
support their autonomy throughout the childbirth process.
● Continuing education and research: Engage in ongoing education and
professional development to stay updated on best practices and advances in
maternity care
● Community outreach: Engage in community outreach and education programs to
promote maternal and infant health, address disparities in health care access,
provide support and participate in conducting community health activities related
to reproductive health.
● Documentation and record keeping: Maintain detailed record of prenatal care,
childbirth, and postpartum follow-up to ensure accurate and comprehensive
medical documentation and continuity of care
● Participating in bedside nursing procedures as a member of the caring team
● Plan ,organize, and implement all sexual and reproductive health activities
● Maintain a clean and healthy environment for the patients
● Participate in clinical ward rounds and provide bedside nursing care for patients
as a member of the caring team
● Adhere to the professional code of conduct and ethics
● Participate in any other activity as directed by supervisor
Position Qualifications
● Completion of midwifery education program with a diploma / certificate in
midwifery from an accredited institution of learning
● Fully licensed and regulated healthcare professional by midwifery regulatory body

● Broader scope of practice and qualified to provide comprehensive maternity care
independently as well as family planning and gynecological services
● Competence in clinical skills such as prenatal care, childbirth assistance, and
postnatal care is crucial
● Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, compassion and ability to provide emotional
support to expectant mothers
